To maintain a safe and readable environment, the Children's Public Library requires all visitors to adhere to the following rules and regulations:
The below behaviours are not allowed within the library building, any behaviour that disrupts or interferes with normal operation of the library or annoys staff or other library users such as-
- Harassment or threat to public conduct
- Use of offesive language or gestures
- Making noise including talking on the phone loudly
- Children under 3 years old are not allowed
- Any behaviour in contrary with decency
- Possession of knives or any other sharp weapons
- Smoking
- Eating and drinking in non-designated places
- Sleeping inside the library
- Selling of goods or services (promotion of any product)
- Damage, misrepresent or misuse any library material or property. This includes disabling library equipment, changing hardware, software and settings of library's computers or using the library computer for purposes other than those specified by the library
- Use of bicycles, skateboards or scooters or anything similar in nature
- Bringing animals to the library
- Any activity that violates laws or policies in force in the Sultanate of Oman
Please note-
- CPL is not responsible for loss or damage of any personal belongings or items
- Visitors are not allowed to bring any large bags or trolleys into the library
- Library security or library staff has the right to inspect any of your property when you come or leave the library
- Wear decent and fragrant clothing when visiting the library
- Shoes should be taken off and placed in the designated places before entering the library
- Some items in the library can not be copied due to copyright
- The library is not responsible for children who have been left without companions. (See the children without a companion policy)
- Groups, schools or centers visits must be arranged in advance (See visit booking policy)
- Taking photos or recording videos are not allowed without prior permission. (See photography policy)
- Leave the library 10 minutes before closing
- Visitors who do not follow the rules and regulations of the library may be asked to leave
- Children may be left without companion only if the child is 13 years old or above
- The library is not responsible for children without a companion if they are exposed to any potential danger such as wounds or falls, yet library staff will provide the first aid needed
- Once the child is left, the guardian must leave his personal contact details before leaving the library
- The duration for leaving the child without a companion shall range between 2-3 hours
- The guardian must personally pick the child and inform the library personnel
- Children under the age of 13 are not allowed to stay alone even if they come with another child of the same age
- The presence of a nanny with the child is not considered an alternative to the presence of the guardian
- The visit must be arranged in advance by booking through the following link (Book a Visit)
- A supervisor should be present with students during their stay
- The supervisor is fully responsible for the students
- The supervisor must ensure that the library visit form is completed
- The institution must adhere to the day specified for the visit
- Each organization is allowed to coordinate 1-2 visits per month to the library
- Institution that has not booked a visit to the library will not be allowed to enter even if it arrived at the library
- If the institution fails to visit on the specified day, all incoming visits resereved for the same month will be cancelled in case the institution does not inform CPL of the cancellation
Visitors can use the computer available for purposes of search, translate text, view visual presentations, browse e-books and other sources of information according to the following guidelines-
- The user must maintain the computer
- Downloading software from any website is not allowed
- Using computers for video games purposes is not allowed
- Using computers for written, audio and video chat programs is strictly prohibited
- The guardian or the companion shall be held responsible for the content that the child is browsing
- No files, documents or images may be saved on desktops. If any user wishes to save any data or files, please use the flash drive or send it to your email
- Users shall be held responsible for any damage or breakage in the computers
- Children aged 13 years or above are not allowed to spend more than 1-2 hours and Children less than 13 years old are not allowed to spend more than 15-30 minutes in front of computer screens
- A guardian or companion must be present with the child who is under the age of 13 while using the computer
- Individuals are allowed to take photos inside the library while respecting the privacy of other visitors and staff
- Copying and publishing any source of information in the library shall not be permitted except in accordance with the intellectual property rights law of the Sulatanate of Oman
- Offensive photography for defamation is not permitted
- Approval for photography must be obtained by filling out the application form (photography request) at least two weeks earlier
- Library management has the full right to accept or reject th photography request
- Photography must be done during working hours only
- If you wish to photograph the visitors or employees of the library, you must obtain a written consent of the individuals concerned
- Moving books or furniture is not allowed without the library management being notified
- Any damage caused to books or furniture shall be borne by the photographer
The library has multiple spaces and institutions and individuals can book spaces according to the following conditions-
First - Booking Mechanism
- The spaces can be booked for any activity according to the vision and objectives of the library
- You should communicate with the library administration to ensure the vacancy of spaces to be booked
- The booking shall not be considered confirmed until it is approved by the library administration
- The tenant must address the administration of the library with an official letter to book the space along with the following details - name of the event, type of event, date of the event, the area to be booked, target audience and expected attendance
- The letter will be replied by the library administration by rejection or acceptance
Second - After Booking Confirmation
- The tenant will be contacted to determine an initial meeting to discuss requirements and equipment required for effectiveness.
- The tenant must present the idea of the event for evaluation and bring all publications, video, audio materials of the event. If they do not comply with the regulations of the library, the library administration has the right to cancel it.
Third - Procedures and Conditions
- Item (1): General Conditions
- The space must be booked two weeks at least before the start of the event.
- The space shall not be used for the purpose or activity other than the agreed upon in advance, and tenant is prohibited to rent space to another party.
- The specified dates shal be complied with and any postponement of any of them shall be notified to the library administration three days at least before such postponement.
- Each area has a specific capacity, thus the specified number may not be exceeded.
- The library is not responsible for the loss.
- Item (2): Event Approval Conditions
- The activities that affect religious religions and Islamic sects shall not be permitted nor the actvities which do not respect Oman's customs, traditions and privacy, which do not comply with public morals and ethics, be permitted.
- The program agreed at the preparatory meeting must be adhered to, and no material shall be presented during the meeting which is not agreed upon.
- Item (3): Contract
- A contract will be signed between the tenant and the administration of the library, including-
- The start and end date of the space
- Dates and times of general processing of the space
- Payment fees and controls
- Additional items (if any)
- Item (4): Prohibitions
- All that is prohibited in the laws and regulations of the library shall be prohibited in the halls
- Using screws and pins on walls and furniture
- Drilling the walls and floors for any reason
- Placing stickers on walls and doors
- Using candles, incense or any flammable materials
- Item (5): Controls of Attendees or Participants by the Tenants
- The tenant shall ensure that the attendees will abide by regulations and laws and good conduct.
- Learning the attendees of the prohibitions of the item (4).
- Item (6): Time Compliance Regulations
- Compliance with the times of event and times of space processing.
- Tenant is entitled to a period not exceeding one day after the end of the event to evacuate the space of its tools and delivered it to the library on the condition before rent.
- Item (7): Controls of Payment of Fees and Compensation
- Booking spaces is subject to the fee system and is made in coordination with the library administration.
- After obtaining the written approval, the fees shall be paid in full, one week before the event date.
- The fees may be paid in cash or by bank check from a bank in the Sultanate.
- The service fees shall be exempted if the library cancelled the event in cases of extreme necessity in which case the fees will be fully refunded.
- In case of cancelling of the event by the requesting party three days before its occurrance, an administrative fee of 10% of the value of the specified fees.
- If the requesting party apologized or cancelled the event on the day of its occurrence, that party shall bear the full fees.
- In the event of damage to the spaces and their accessories as a result of misuse, the tenant shall bear the damages as determined by the library.
- Item (8): Insurance Fees
- Insurance fees shall be charged at the end of the event.
- The library shall have the right to deduct insurance fees in the following cases:
- If the room is not evacuated on time
- In case of damage caused by misuse
- Loss of any tools or devices delivered to the organizers
